Manuscript Wishlists

Each of our imprints specializes in a different genre. See below for more detailed information on each. Also, in general, we are looking to publish manuscripts that feature character-driven narratives, twists on classic tropes, marginalized protagonists, and intentional and voice-y prose. At this time, we are not interested in children’s literature and/or middle grade manuscripts.

Aconite Publishing

As our paranormal and supernatural imprint, Aconite Publishing is especially interested in acquiring titles that showcase found families, fated mates (regardless of species), grumpy x sunshine pairings, sapphic retellings, or asexual and transgender protagonists or love interests. Also, agents with manuscripts that feature angels, demons, can be compared to Lucifer, a New Adult Twilight, or include a Stiles Stilinski-esque character, are highly encouraged to submit. Please note that romance as main or minor plot device is not required for submission.

Le Fay Publishing

As our romantasy imprint, Le Fay Publishing is especially interested in acquiring titles that showcase medieval settings, gritty themes, morally gray heroes, or could be considered urban fantasy. Additionally, if you represent a manuscript that features political storylines à la the Wars of the Roses (but with magic!) or any Arthurian retellings or elements (especially if it’s genderswapped!), you are highly encouraged to submit. Please note that romance as main plot device is required for submission.

Elm Street Press

As our horror and thriller imprint, Elm Street Press is especially interested in acquiring titles that showcase unique twists on classic horror tropes, such as the haunted house or the slasher killer, eerie and atmospheric ghost stories, and anything that deals with the realm of dreams à la Freddy Krueger. Please note, romance as a main or minor plot device is not required for submission at this imprint.

First Contact Press

As our science fiction imprint, First Contact Press is especially interested in acquiring titles that showcase any time travel paradox, alternate histories, dystopian settings, or natural disasters as a narrative arc. Also, you are highly encouraged to submit if you're representing a manuscript that features the collapse of society due to technological dependence or could be called the next Jurassic Park. Please note that romance as main or minor plot device is not required for submission.

Self-insert publishing

As our contemporary romance imprint, Self-Insert Publishing, or SIP for short, is especially interested in acquiring titles that showcase small town settings, professional hockey or baseball players as love interests, the ‘there was only one bed’ trope, friends to lovers, or self-insert main characters. Additionally, agents with manuscripts that fall into the romantic comedy subgenre or could be compared to a Taylor Swift song are highly encouraged to submit. Please note, romance as a main or minor plot device is required for submission at this imprint and all heat levels are welcome, though the smuttier the merrier. Also, in order to qualify as a romance novel or novella at Plot Bunny Publishing, any manuscript submitted to this imprint must conclude with a Happily Ever After (HEA) or a Happily For Now (HFN), unless it is a planned series.

ETL Press

As our dark romance imprint, ETL Press is especially interested in acquiring titles that showcase enemies to lovers, accidental declarations of love (preferably during near-death experiences with lots of cursing!), love interests who want to unalive anyone who even looks at the main character wrong, fringe societies (i.e. mafia, motorcycle clubs, rockstars, etc.), or a complex revenge narrative. Also, if you're representing a manuscript that is a dark modern-day Bridgerton, you are highly encouraged to submit.

FAQs

Why do you consider yourself a hybrid publisher?

According to standards set forth by the Independent Book Publishers Association (IBPA), a hybrid publisher is one that has a defined mission and vision, vets all submissions, publishes under its own imprints and ISBNs, ensures a professional level of editorial, design, and production quality, and pays authors a higher-than-standard royalty rate.We do all of those things. However, that last bit about the royalty rate is usually obtained through an exchange for the author's personal investment. We do not require any financial investment by the author to offer those higher royalty rates, though. So, while we call ourselves a hybrid publisher, because it is the closest we can come to defining our business with a single term, due to our higher-than-standard royalty rates, we may need to update this in the future as we, and the publishing industry, evolve.

Do you charge the author to publish with you?

No. If we sign a publishing contract with someone, we are not asking for any fees. However, as in all traditional publishing contracts, we do outline a royalty share, which includes a higher rate than is standard in traditional publishing, on future book sales. We handle the cover design, editing, marketing, etc., with substantial input from the author at each step.

Are you a vanity press?

Nowadays, we feel this is a totally valid question that needs to be asked of all newer publishers. And for us, the answer is a resounding no. We do not charge fees to publish with us and we do not publish every single submission we receive.Additionally, we have a vision for our company, all submissions are reviewed and vetted, we have defined imprints and use our own ISBNs, we demand the highest quality possible of production (from design to printing) on all of the books we acquire, and we pay higher royalties to our authors than that of a standard traditional publisher. There is no definition available that would relegate us to being deemed a vanity press.

How do I know if I'm ready to submit my manuscript?

As with any traditional publisher, Plot Bunny Publishing is only ever accepting polished and completed manuscripts. At this time, though, we are only accepting agented submissions that have undergone several rounds of edits. If this is not you, please reconsider submitting at this time. Once rejected, there is no chance for a resubmission on that specific manuscript, even with substantial edits.

Your logo is an adorable bunny.
Why do you not accept children's literature or middle grade manuscripts?

We can understand how that might be confusing because Friedrich (we had to give the adorable lad a name!) is super cute, but it is not indicative of the type of manuscripts we accept. At this time, we are shifting focus to digital sales. That's not to say that we will not be offering physical copies of the books we acquire, but after months of industry research we concluded that our marketing will remain centralized around practices we believe will be most beneficial to everyone in our company. With the way the current system of traditional publishing is set up, the majority of sales in children's literature and middle grade rest heavily in physical copies and library distribution, neither of which we are interested in targeting. Should information garnered from ongoing market research change, we are prepared to pivot as well.Again, this does not mean the titles in our catalogue aren't eligible for library distribution and/or physical copies, but we are not as devoted to that method as our larger traditional publishing peers.
